New Play About Austrian Conscientious Objector Read

Foreign Language Adaptations

A new play written by Cathal Gallagher was  cold read on Saturday, April 18.   The play is about the Austrian conscientious objector Franz Jägerstätter, who was executed for his refusal to serve in the Wehrmacht of the Third Reich during WWII.

Upon the completion of the reading, Cathal will revise based on feedback, and there will be a staged reading before a small audience in order to get feedback for refining the script for production.

We will announce the staged reading, once Cathal's first revisions are completed.

Other adaptations of "For a Child is Born to Us..." script are in the works and we need volunteer translators to help complete them.
We will provide the script (some of them have the scriptural parts already placed) and the scriptures (if necessary)

We have found a new translator to complete the update of the Viętnamese script, since the previous translators' schedules no longer permitted them to work on it..

We have unfinished adaptations in progress for the following languages: (Will provide script and scriptures)

We welcome culturally-based adaptation of this script. (i.e,  Peking/Cantonese Opera, Korean Pansori , Latin-American Posada, Japanese Kabuki, Noh, or Yugen etc)  .If interested in a culturally-based adaptation, please contact the adapting playwright at stormridersj@yahoo.com

The adapting playwright structured the script in such a way as to make such cultural adaptations possible and still keep the thread of the narrative.  The word 'catholic' literally means 'universal.'    It is in this spirit that we wish to share the story of the Nativity in a culturally appropriate theatrical form..

Project in Progress

“For a Child is Born to Us...” the story of the Infancy of Christ from the meeting with Zechariah and the angel to the return to the Holy Family to Nazareth, adapted from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. This script is complete and has already being adapted into the Viętnamese language.  This play was adapted from the Douay-Rheims Bible and scripts with the King James and American Standard Versions are being updated to match the Douay version.

This script is a short one-act that can be played in halls, chapels and other small venues, ideal for either pre-service or post  service performances during the Advent and Christmas Seasons.  It can also work for traveling ensemble groups due to the minimal set requirements.  The set pieces can be removed from the stage as the scene ends or transitions to a sub-scene.

UPDATE: Adaptation of "For a Child is Born to Us..."for Readers' Theatre* in Progress

A new Readers' Theatre adaptation of "For a Child is Born to Us..." is in the works by the author, G. C. Davis.  This Readers' Theatre program will be in a 1940's radio drama format, complete with optional secret message and a true-to-life radio bulletin.  The reason, G.C. says, is that this format requires little preparation by the actors and can be booked quickly. This format for Readers' Theatre proved successful for Arclight Repertory Theatre when they used it for their reading of Shakespeare's "Hamlet"

Due in part to the successful readings of "The Case of Humanity vs. Pontius Pilate," it is hoped that this play will be read during the Advent and Christmas seasons through to Epiphany.

Stay tuned to "KQVT Radio Theatre!"

*Readers' Theatre:  A format where actors read the script while performing.
